Safety and route notes

Existing editorial notes, not live trail status. Any check date below applies only to that static check; recheck official notices and local conditions before departure.

  • The official page warns of a precipitous section near Hirzli and Planggenstock that requires a head for heights, and advises against inexperienced children using it in wet weather.
  • Treat this as a mountain hike, not a universally family-safe walk.
  • Avoid wet or icy exposed ground; remain on the exact marked route rather than adding the optional ridge.
  • The official page mentions early summer and autumn, but no fixed opening dates are established.
  • Summer hiking entry: snow-free conditions are required.
  • No independently established fixed opening months or SAC T-grade are asserted.
  • Federal closure/diversion layer checked on 24 October 2026: no reported closure or diversion intersects this exact route; absence of a notice is not an assurance that the route is open.
  • Recheck official notices, local conditions and weather before departure.
