About the trail

Climb from Engeloch beside the Ritzibach, passing larch woodland and a waterfall before reaching Sirwoltu lake in its moraine basin. The complete official route continues over Wyssbodehorn and descends by Rossbodustafel to Egga. This is the full crossing, not an out-and-back to the lake. Official figures: 10 km, +900 m / −1100 m, 4.42 hours. The complete federal track measures 9.64 km with accumulated +889 m / −1103 m. Official classification: medium mountain hiking trail; difficult fitness. No SAC T-grade is independently established. The official page describes a steep rock ledge secured by a rope, carved steps, scree and a steep zigzag descent. It says the Wyssbodehorn ascent should only be attempted in good visibility. The named summit is quoted at 2,623 m by the operator; the actual federal track maximum is 2,615 m, retained here rather than substituted. A separate Homatta–Simplonpass rockfall closure through 31 October 2026 lies at least 720 m from this exact track and is not part of it. Do not use that closed approach. Summer hiking entry: snow-free conditions are required; no verified fixed opening months are asserted. Current closure layer checked 2026-10-24: no closure or diversion intersects this exact route; notices are not guaranteed complete or current on departure.
