About the trail
A magnificent high traverse above the Great Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The classic route runs from Bettmerhorn or Fiescheralp to Riederalp, following the moraine edge with continuous views of the 20-kilometre ice river curving toward the Konkordiaplatz. The path is well-graded but includes exposed passages and one short tunnel — a headlamp helps. Cable cars at each end allow flexible planning. Best from mid-June to October, when the low-angle sun of morning or late afternoon highlights the glacier's texture.
