About the trail

Follow the complete official loop from Morgenholz in the Niederurnen alpine valley to Hirzli and back. The climb passes Schwinfärch and sections of the sculpture path, with views across the Linth plain and towards Lake Zurich and Walensee. The return leads towards Mettmen before reaching the mountain station. No optional Planggenstock ridge extension or cable-car ride has been added to the stored track. Official reference: 7 km, +660/−660 m, 3.17 hours. Complete federal track: 7.40 km, accumulated +666/−666 m. Official classification: medium mountain hiking trail; medium fitness. The official page warns of a precipitous section near Hirzli and Planggenstock that requires a head for heights, and advises against inexperienced children using it in wet weather. Treat this as a mountain hike, not a universally family-safe walk. Avoid wet or icy exposed ground; remain on the exact marked route rather than adding the optional ridge.
