About the trail
A high-altitude interpretive trail starting at Trockener Steg (2,939 m) and descending to Schwarzsee, entirely under the shadow of the Matterhorn's east face. Information panels along the way explain glacier retreat and the geology of the massif, while the path crosses moraines and glacially polished slabs. Despite the modest ascent, the altitude and rocky footing make it more strenuous than the numbers suggest. Take the cable car up and either walk down or ride back from Schwarzsee. Open roughly July to late September.
