About the trail

Walk the complete official high-level route along the sunny side of the Schächental, from the Klausen pass through alpine pasture and light forest, past Heidmanegg, Ratzi and Biel, to the small Fleschsee lake and the Eggberge cable-car station above Lake Uri. The stored track ends at Eggberge; no descent to Flüelen and no shortcut by the intermediate gondolas has been added. Official reference: 22 km, +740/−1250 m, 6.25 hours. Complete federal track: 21.94 km, accumulated +731/−1231 m. This is a long mountain day with more descent than ascent. The official page notes a short section on the pass road after Untere Balm, narrow paths, and intermediate gondolas (Ruogig, Biel-Kinzig, Ratzi) that can shorten the walk; their operation is not verified here. High ground near the pass can hold snow outside summer. Check the Eggberge cable car and pass bus timetables separately. Summer hiking entry: snow-free conditions are required. No independently established fixed opening months, SAC T-grade or painted waymark colours are asserted. Federal closure/diversion layer checked on 25 October 2026: no reported closure or diversion intersects this exact route; absence of a notice is not an assurance that the route is open. Recheck official notices, local conditions, weather and any lift or railway timetables before departure. Official original name: Höhenweg Schächental. Geometry licence: OGD BY.
