About the trail
Walk from Tremona through its archaeological landscape and Meride, then climb through woodland to Monte San Giorgio above Lake Lugano. The route visits the UNESCO fossil landscape, continues past Alpe di Brusino and Serpiano, and finishes at Meride. The published track follows the complete official Tremona–Meride variant, not a summit shortcut or cable-car descent. Official figures: 13 km, +740 m / −740 m, 4.33 hours. The complete federal track measures 12.75 km with accumulated +747 m / −739 m. Official classification: medium mountain hiking trail; medium fitness. No SAC T-grade is independently established. The official description identifies a steep final summit ascent and a steep forest descent to Alpe di Brusino. Wear suitable mountain footwear and take care on wet ground. The grotto is described as serving from April to October; this is a business season, not a guarantee that the walking route or cableway is open. Summer hiking entry: snow-free conditions are required; no verified fixed opening months are asserted. Current closure layer checked 2026-10-24: no closure or diversion intersects this exact route; notices are not guaranteed complete or current on departure. Recheck official notices and local weather before walking. Source: https://schweizmobil.ch/en/hiking-in-switzerland/route-636. Geometry licence: OGD BY.
