About the trail
A Zurich Oberland hike from Kollbrunn station through the Koppenholz woods and along the Bolsteren ridge, then up a narrow ravine to the Tüfelschilen, a moss-covered former tufa quarry with a small waterfall. The route continues to the Schauenberg viewpoint over the hills north of Zurich and descends through the Fahrenbachtobel to the village of Elgg. Official reference: 16 km, +660/−640 m, 4 h 40 min. Complete federal track: 15.96 km, accumulated +650/−636 m. Ravine sections and the stairs at the Tüfelschilen are slippery when wet or covered in leaves, and roots and fallen trees are common in the woods. Avoid the gorges in storms.
