About the trail
Val Trupchun in the Swiss National Park is arguably the best place in the Alps to see red deer, chamois, ibex, and marmots in a genuinely wild setting. The trail from S-chanf follows the valley on a well-graded path, gaining altitude gradually to the alp meadows at the head of the valley. Strict park rules apply: stay on marked paths, no dogs, no picking plants, no leaving the trail. Bring binoculars. Best from late May to October; the September rut is spectacular but crowded.
